Welcome

…to my website. My tiny portion of the internet to toot my own horn and hopefully give a glance into the process of writing and publishing a novel. And sometimes library stuff, book reviews, and travel adventures.

My plan is to give a blow-by-blow description of all the steps to publishing a novel. Step one: Write the novel. Took me 8 years to get step one finished, so only 392 steps to go! If each takes 8 years I’m in big trouble.

In addition to being a writer, I’m a librarian with the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, MD. This is the City of Baltimore’s public library system. Some of my posts will undoubtedly be about the library. The things they didn’t teach us in grad school can fill a book – ha – see what I did there?

Speaking of books, I will occasionally post about them too. As a writer and a librarian it is my sworn duty to give a painstaking account of each book that passes through my hands. No, not really, but maybe a short blurb on a great novel, a new book by a friend or a writing-craft manual.

I also travel a lot. Trudge through my travel posts with me because I need somewhere to post all the pics I take. Of course thanks to Covid, my travels for 2020 have been stalled. Finding some nice ways to distract ourselves right here in Maryland instead.

I started this website six years ago to document all the places I wanted to see before I moved from St. Louis in 2014. We’d lived there for 12 years and it broke my heart to leave. You’ll find on my blog some of the posts I wrote then and the Show-Me List, which I never finished.

This is no longer a farewell to a place I’m leaving; now it’s a hello for the next place I’m headed – the bookshelf of my local library. Join me!
